Our beloved Papa Joel arrived in Canada in December 2024 as a landed immigrant from the Philippines. He started working in March 2025 as a part-time aircraft groomer at the airport and truly enjoyed his job. He was happy, full of life, and excited for the future.

Papa Joel was a remarkable man. He had no vices, ate very healthily, and lived a simple but meaningful life. He was extremely kind-hearted—a wonderful husband, son, father, grandfather, and friend. Everyone who knew him admired his generosity and warmth.

But in July 2025, everything changed. He was diagnosed with angioma sarcoma, a very aggressive liver cancer. Despite his courage and hope, his journey became a constant battle. Last October 2025, he underwent a major surgery to remove the tumor, which was successful, and for a moment, we felt relief and hope.

Unfortunately, by December 2025, the cancer returned even more aggressively than before. He began chemotherapy in January 2026 and went through five weekly sessions, each one extremely challenging. Despite his strength and determination, the chemotherapy eventually stopped being effective.

Then, on March 29, 2026, everything happened suddenly. Papa Joel became very weak, unable to eat or drink, and could no longer respond to us. We called 911, and at the hospital, we discovered he had a blood clot in his brain caused by the spread of his cancer. Within a few hours, he peacefully passed away.

His death was completely unexpected. He was happy and full of life, and we never imagined that this aggressive cancer would take him so quickly. He had no chance to prepare for his funeral, and our family is left trying to cope with this sudden loss.
