Peter who is fighting an Acute Guillian Barre Syndrome

Peter Voorhis, an avid athlete, decided to retire early from his engineering position in December of 2024 to enjoy the rest of his life doing what he loves, that being cycling and skiing with his wife Wendy.
On the 6th of May 2025, Peter was suddenly and severely affected by Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS), a rare and life- threatening neurological disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves. Within days, Peter experienced rapid and near-total paralysis.
This avid sportsman found himself lying in a bed unable to move. What began as nerve pain in his legs quickly progressed to loss of mobility and then moved to his hands and arms, again with loss of mobility. He also experiences difficulty with swallowing. Within days, he was completely paralyzed from the neck down. Peter has been told his condition is “acute” and will take 1 to 2 years to recover. It is now August 1, 2025. Peter remains fully aware, engaged and using every ounce of his strength to regain mobility. As of today, he is still unable to stand, unable to walk but has been slowly regaining some movement in his arms and hands and is now able to roll over on his side when sleeping. Though he’s struggling, he continues to fight for the life he once knew with determination.
Peter now faces a long and unpredictable road to recovery which will continue to require months of intensive rehabilitation and ongoing specialized support. Guillain Barre recovery timelines vary and some severe cases like his could take several years and unfortunately, full recovery is not guaranteed. Should his condition become “chronic,” lifetime treatment will be necessary. BUT one thing is certain, Peter is fighting with everything he has, surrounded by the unwavering love of his wife Wendy, and their 3 sons, Nevin, Jack and Tim.
At Peter’s side every day is Wendy, his fiercest advocate and the heart of their family. Wendy, his wife, has poured every ounce of herself into supporting him through this terrifying and uncertain time. Their whole family has been deeply affected by this sudden shift in their world.
Funds raised will help cover:
• On going medical and rehabilitation expenses
• Home care and accessibility modifications
• New vehicle to transport Peter to rehabilitation appointments
• Unpaid medical bills which keep increasing daily
Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a meaningful difference. Your generosity will help ease their burden and provide hope as Peter continues his recovery.
