Periods Don’t Stop for Poverty
Every month, millions of people across the country struggle with something many of us take for granted: access to safe, clean period products. In fact, studies show that 1 in 4 people who menstruate in the U.S. have struggled to afford period products, and for those experiencing homelessness, the barriers are even greater. Something as natural and regular as a period becomes a source of pain, shame, and suffering when there’s no access to pads, tampons, or hygiene resources.
We’re Vanya Shrivastava and Zairah Thomas, two students at the University of Southern California. We are partnering with WaterDrop LA, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting our unhoused neighbors, to host a Period Product Drive for the community on Skid Row.
