Hello! My name is Siya Sharma and I am an incoming freshman at UCLA. I have started a chapter of the PERIOD movement for the city of Santa Clara. The PERIOD movement is a nonprofit organization that works to end period poverty and stigma through service, education and advocacy. 

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, marginalized and homeless populations face unprecedented menstrual poverty. To give back to the Santa Clara community, I hope to provide sanitary hygiene products to shelters within our city. Consequently, such populations will be given the resources necessary to maintain cleaner menstruation practices, an alternative to commonly used toilet paper, cloth rags, and socks. 

A goal of this chapter is to help the greater Santa Clara community understand the privilege within access to menstrual products. This quarantine has only created more disparate inequalities in menstrual care but we must understand that periods do not stop for pandemics. For this reason, all donations will be used to purchase and supply products for local shelters serving the most marginalized members of my city.
