Help Me Bring Period Products to Unhoused Women in San Diego
Hello! My name is Elena Yoder and I am a student at Point Loma Nazarene University. I’m leading a study on the lived experiences and realities of unhoused, menstruating individuals in San Diego.
I am grateful to have the opportunity to do my Senior Honors Project in collaboration with Akinyi and PPP, who both work to bring awareness and change surrounding the problem of menstrual inequity in San Diego and around the world.
Throughout college, I have been involved with outreach orgs working alongside the unhoused population of San Diego, developing relationships that are incredibly special and purposeful. I find so much joy in engaging beyond the borders our world puts up and this research gives me the opportunity to continue to lean into this in a very tangible way that can have substantial impact in the world.
SO, 50k for $5000 is the goal I am aiming for. I’m running a 50K trail race and I’m raising money to buy period products to gift the women I get to interview through my research. These products are basic necessities that many don’t have access to, and your support will help provide them with some dignity, relief, and comfort. I get to combine my love of endurance and my passion for menstrual equity in this world and I am so grateful to do so.
Period poverty is REAL and can make life even harder for people living on the streets. By sharing their testimony, I am hoping to bring more awareness and start necessary conversations in San Diego, along with PPP that Akinyi has already started on a global level.
Any amount helps! If you want to pledge per mile that I run, REACH OUT! Feel free to give a flat donation, as well.
THANK YOU!
With love,
Elena
