Perc. Instruments Needed for Community Workshops

Perc. Instruments Needed for Community Workshops

Hello! :)

My name is Rihab Azar. I'm a Syrian oud player, composer & music workshop facilitator.
I trained as a performer at the Conservatoire of Damascus, Syria ; then as an educator through a master's degree in Music Education at The Institute of Education, UCL.

I'm just about to finish a year-long traineeship in community music workshop-leading at Wigmore Hall. It has been wonderful.
I've learned so much about making music in different community settings, with people of different ages, backgrounds and needs.

Now, I'm looking beyond my training and I need your help to buy an effective set of auxiliary percussion instruments (pitched and unpitched) as well as musical bits and pieces so I can have the participation tools I need to offer my services to different community settings.
I will need to have a good "infrastructure" to be able to carry out projects in the community.

I have very few basic percussion instruments at the moment and every little you can contribute will help me expand the sounds I can offer the participants, which will make their experience more enjoyable and rewarding.

My calling for this next stage after the training is to facilitate workshops with refugees and asylum seekers in London and beyond.

Music helped me share moments of belonging with others when I was a newcomer in the UK myself, and I'd love to be able to facilitate enjoyable, creative experiences for others to feel warmly welcome and celebrated for all that they bring to our community life.

Please donate whatever you can. Your contribution will be honoured and celebrated with every workshop and I'll be grateful forever to all the people who will have helped me launch this new side of my career as a community music workshop leader.

If we dream bigger and go beyond the initial target, it will help increase the number of workshops I'm able to deliver by relieving associated costs (such as travel for some participants who otherwise can't take part, workshop room booking, instrument transport, etc..).

I can't wait to welcome new members in our communities through music-making, and form new friendships that are grounded in appreciation, equity and support.

Lots of Love and thank you so much for your help
