The challenge involves 5 guys, 3 national peaks and 24 hours!
5 wonderful guys have decided to climb the Three National Peaks in just 24 hours to raise money for Pentreath. On April 26th, they will climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, then drive to Scafell Pike in England to climb the second peak of the day and finally drive to Wales to finish the challenge by climbing Snowden.
Why? 3 of the guys have struggled with their mental health at some point throughout their life and walking gave them an opportunity to get together and talk. Not everyone wants to attend a group to talk, walking side by side in nature can often feel more natural and provide a safe environment to open up. Between them they had always fancied a challenge and they felt if they were going to do a something they should use it as an opportunity to raise money for a mental health charity that helps other people with their emotional wellbeing, as it would feel like their way of giving back.
When they can, they have been getting together to train. On their last trek they ventured to Dartmoor. They were hit with every bit of weather possible. As hard as it was with the conditions, they still got “some miles in their legs" and felt it provided them with the reality of how it could be on the main day.
Their next training session will be in Yorkshire, walking up the three peaks there at the end of March.
All money raised will go into our Maslow fund. This fund is used to help people with their basic needs. A few examples could be supermarket vouchers so people can gain food. We might buy oil heaters/electric blankets/hot water bottles so people can keep warm. Clothing, shoes, bus tickets so someone can attend an interview in the hope of moving on in their journey by gaining employment. Coats for people who have gained education but need to walk from the bus stop to the college and don't have anything to keep them warm. If something prevents people from achieving their goals or inhibits them from gaining their basic needs, then we will look to see if we can support that with our Maslow Fund.
To follow their journey and provide encouragement, please do follow the Pentreath Facebook page where updates on training and the event will be posted.
