Pedestrian Bridge at Hamlen Woods
Donation protected
Hi Everyone!
My name is David Liu. I'm a senior at Wayland High School and a Boy Scout from Troop 1, Cochituate. I grew up in Wayland, and I've always loved nature. This past summer, I found out about an old, rotten bridge in the middle of Mainstone Farm and Hamlen Woods, one of the few nature attractions in Wayland, just off of Rice Rd. This bridge is in the middle of the conservation and has worn down significantly over the years. It's become a public safety hazard, especially in the winter, where snow can disguise this broken-down bridge. The bridge has various gaping holes and multiple sharp nails sticking out of it. For my Eagle Scout Project, I plan to replace this bridge with a pedestrian bridge. Attached below are some pictures of the bridge from last summer, a map of the reservation, and the new bridge design. All of the donations will be used to fund the construction of the new bridge, and all excess money will be donated to Sudbury Valley Trustee.
I plan to add a railing to the bridge to make it more accessible and safe for the elderely.
