Early morning Monday July 20th, 2020 Philadelphia Housing Authority officials backed by approx 25 armed PHA police officers descended on the North Philly Peace Park in a early morning raid under the pretext of "unlawful occupation" of the properties adjacent to The Park. After being confronted by Peace Park staff and neighbors, the raiding party was forced to withdraw. The properties in dispute were former drug and prostitution dens, that were recently taken over by neighbors and recently repurposed by Peace Park workers as spaces for community healing and uplift. The properties are currently under the control of the Peace Guard of the North Philly Peace Park. We are calling on all supporters of The Park to help us rehabilitate the properties with this campaign. Funds will be used for building materials and construction services.
