Peace in the Midst of the Storm

Hello, my name is Joseph Leadley, and I come before you on the universal stage of compassion standing behind the podium of life as a Brother, Son, Father and Uncle. Offering my sincerest peace and blessings to every individual who takes time out of their busy day to learn more about the cause I am advocating for.

On May 15th, 2023 @ approximately 12:30 am, my family would experience a life-changing moment. This particular ordeal would result in the immediate loss of life for my youngest niece Zaveena Houston who was 10 months old.

My nephew Zeus Houston(Nugget) age 2 yrs old, would be in critical condition with internal brain bleeding, severe outer extremity lacerations, a broken eye socket, and a broken leg.

My niece Zamira Houston(Mira) age 1 yrs old would sustain severe facial lacerations and a horrific injury that would cause her tongue to split in 2.

My nephew Zavian(Zay) age 10, would end up having his right arm amputated due to the degree and nature of his injuries, a broken pelvis that protruded through his groin, a seriously broken jaw, and a broken leg.

One has to ponder what had to have occurred to these precious angels to suffer such horrific conditions. They all were victims of a car crash, that resulted in them flying through the windshield.

Despite the horrendous tragedies above, we as a family are still trying our best to navigate through the grief and remain observant of life’s silver lining.

Zaveena will be laid to rest on June 3rd, 2023

Zeus is currently out of the hospital he is trying his best to smile although he is temporarily confined to a wheel and body cast due to his leg injury.

Mira is also out of the hospital, her wounds are healing, and she recently celebrated her 2nd birthday on 05/22/2023

Zay is still in the hospital due to his bone protruding and being exposed to the air he is having to fight off numerous infections, but recovery is underway.

They are also without a mother (My sister has been charged and is being held solely responsible for this incident) Zeus, Zaveena, and Zamira's father is incarcerated. CPS placed Zeus and Zamira in the care of their grandmother who will have to take off work for at least 2 months due to Zeus not being allowed to attend daycare due to his condition.

Zay's father has been by his side, however, once he applies for FMLA, he will no longer receive a paycheck, due to the guidelines of employment.

Although we are optimistic about the future, we know for certain that the journey ahead for these angels is going to be hard and grueling. Despite the instant allure being depicted on the numerous social media platforms, for many of us life is constantly plagued with hardships and even harder times. These children are truly miracles, and their road to recovery is going to require one.

This effort is strictly for the well-being of these children. To ensure that they can heal, get counseling, appreciate and enjoy life for everything it has to offer.
