Everett's Journey
Our incredible son Everett is on a courageous journey after being diagnosed with Pierre Robin Sequence while in the womb.
A little background, Everett is a fraternal twin to his sister Everleigh. Both were born at 33 weeks 1 day on March 24, 2021 strong and healthy aside from Everett's diagnosis. Everett required a breathing tube as soon as he was born due to his lower jaw being so small that it pushed his tongue back against his throat making breathing on his own unlikely. Everleigh came home after 4 weeks in the UNC NCCC but Everett remained so his AWESOME team of doctors and nurses could provide care and perform medical procedures to help his condition.
In May 2021 Everett had his lower jaw distracted (pushed forward with the help of plates in his lower jaw) and it was successful. He was no longer a critical airway since his tongue no longer rested at the back of his mouth blocking his throat, making it easy for a breathing tube to be placed.
Unfortunately during breathing evaluations Everett could not breathe on his own without assistance and he ended up getting a tracheostomy at the beginning of June. Since then Everett has shown major growth and strength. He does not require a ventilator and just needs the trach collar to provide some humidified oxygen to help him with his secretions.
Everett also got a G tube to help him with feedings so he wouldn't be hindered from coming home sooner than later.
Many people have asked us how they can help and honestly we are so overwhelmed with the outpouring of support we can't even process how much Everett is loved so early in his life.
Kevin and I really just ask for prayers for Everett that he stays strong, healthy, and keeps progressing to out grow his diagnosis.
We have really struggled about creating this page because we are not the type to easily take help financially and we minimize how much physical help we take too. One of our vices is that we always strive to take care of the situations we are in ourselves and try not to rely too heavily on others.
That being said if anyone truly wants to help, then here is a way (I put an arbitrary amount because again we don't expect anything). We GREATLY appreciate you all and can't thank you enough.
Any amount donated will help with expenses for Everett's care (his special formula, private care if we can only get so much through insurance, any medical equipment/supplies that are not provided through home care/insurances, just any other costs that having him at home that we just never planned for).
