Hello and thank you for taking the time to read our story! In 2021, we were given the opportunity to live in one of Stephanie’s family member’s unoccupied houses in another state (Tennessee) along with a third family member for a few months as a means to save money for a down payment on a forever home back in California. We were told there were no bills and we would be expected to simply be caretakers until this family member could move into the house.

Unfortunately, to our dismay, this turned out to be a scam organized by the third family member as a means to move them across country. Once we arrived, we found out not only we were expected to pay bills, but the person we moved with became extremely abusive and unsafe to live with, including inviting strangers over with our nearly 2-year-old under the same roof, causing us to have to make an emergency move out of the house after a mere three weeks of living together.

Now, four years later after being isolated to and living in a state we never intended to be in permanently, we are ready to come back home to California where the majority of our friends and family are. As a result of this situation, Steph has lost her entire Apple 401k, and the whole family had to give up many irreplaceable material items in order to make the move happen. We simply do not have the savings to move back to California and have given up our dream of homeownership. We just want to be back where we started from, surrounded by our loved ones.
