This year, we have seen heartbreaking changes in the immigration policies of the United States. Mass deportations have struck terror and fear in our communities, schools, workplaces, and houses of worship. Families are being torn apart, and entire communities are being threatened. The situation is dire, and the temptation to turn a blind eye or become overwhelmed to the point of apathy is very real. But as people of faith, we are called to respond—not with indifference, but with action, compassion, and justice. And there are many rising up to meet the needs of this moment.
This summer, I will be volunteering at Casa Migrante, a home in Mexico along the border that serves migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and deportees. Casa Migrante has been providing shelter, food, clothing, and a range of critical services to people facing uncertain futures since 1987. I am excited to serve there and help those whose lives have been upended by current immigration policies. During my time at Casa Migrante, I will assist with daily operations, offer emotional and spiritual support, and help migrants as they navigate their journey to safety and a new life.
I am reaching out to you, my community, to make this possible. Your support will help cover my living expenses and travel costs for these three months of service. Any donation, big or small, will make a difference and help me answer this call to serve at such a critical time.
Thank you so much for your generosity, and please consider spreading the word. Together, we can stand united against injustice and be a source of hope and light in these challenging times.
With gratitude,
Min. Payton Silket
