I'm Aimee Deevoy, a Year 11 Head Student, raising money for forthcoming four-week excursion with Camp International. This tour aims to reduce poverty in South Asian communities living in small villages. I'll be visiting Borneo, Malaysia, in July 2027.

Children in Southeast Asia choose to work to support their families rather than pursue higher education, which results in a startlingly low secondary school attendance rate. Although important, there are other issues Malaysia faces, such as deforestation contributing to increased global warming. The region's deforestation for palm oil plantations not only contributes to global warming but also destroys habitats for a number of species, including the endangered orangutan. Camp International can help in this situation. Their objective is for student volunteers to take part in activities such as:

Building school kitchens: the kitchen frequently serves a child's only meal of the day, so we will work to provide the schools with facilities such as teacher accommodation and kitchens.

Constructing kindergartens and enhancing early childhood education can significantly lower the number of children who fall behind.

Reforestation initiatives: designed to restore forests damaged by commercial deforestation and give communities access to their own crops.

Community toilet block installations: many homes do not have their own toilet facilities so this will provide villages with clean, modern toilets, reducing hygiene and healthcare issues.

Building bridges: enables kids to cross rivers much more easily and safely in order to get to school.

The programme costs £5130, and to guarantee a spot on the team, a £550 deposit is required by Thursday, December 18, 2025. I have raised slightly more than £300, but my parents' present financial difficulties prevent them from making a contribution. Since many families, particularly those in Crewe, cannot afford to pay for this, like mine, Camp International strongly encourages students to find sponsors, work and fundraise to earn the money.
