On World Suicide Prevention Day, 10 September 2026, Sam Layton will walk 60 miles pushing the Black Dog trolley. Starting in Wigan, she will walk through all 10 metropolitan boroughs of Greater Manchester, finishing in Salford.
This walk is to fundraise for Support For Us, a charity that is being launched to provide training and resources around young people’s mental health.
Having walked 345 miles around London, Middlesbrough and Manchester last year, Sam wanted to set herself a new challenge for this year. The Black Dog, resembling depression, was a ride (the type you pay £1 for in supermarkets). After Sam managed to get it, she has painted it, had the base cut off and added it to a trolley (mechanics were already removed).
Sam was motivated to start Support For Us through her own experiences with depression and suicide during her adolescence.
A submission to the Charity Commission will be made in the next few weeks and Sam is hopeful for the charity to be registered before September but this is dependant on various factors.
Please note that GoFundMe ask for a tip when you donate- this is to the GFM platform and can be reduced to £0.
