Paul’s big run for William!

Donation protected
William was a happy & healthy 3 year old little boy who loved nothing more than running round the garden chasing his little sister and helping his daddy with jobs.

In January 2020 he was unfortunately struck down with sepsis. It was the most traumatic and scariest time of our lives, with his little heart stopping and family being told to say their goodbyes.

Thankfully, being the fighter he is, William
defied the odds and pulled through. Unfortunately the sepsis left irreversible damage to his little body and in March 2020 he underwent surgery to amputate both legs and parts of nine fingers.

William has smiled throughout the whole ordeal and gone from strength to strength. He has overcome brain injury, healed amazingly and learnt to walk and talk again. He started school September 2020 and is doing amazingly.

However life is not without its challenges, some of which are becoming more apparent as he grows. William is already on his 9th set of legs as he constantly outgrows them, meaning it’s one step forwards two steps back in terms of progress. He is determined to learn to run again, something which at the minute seems impossible. He has been fortunate to get running blades however these are currently out of action due to a recent growth spurt!

When he is unable to wear his legs, our house is inaccessible for his wheelchair and this brings many challenges. He’s getting to a stage where we physically cannot carry him in and out of the house or lift him into the bath etc.

We are hoping to raise money to alleviate some of these issues and make his future as easy as possible. We are very fortunate to receive NHS prosthetics but as he gets older we want to ensure he can access the best technology and prosthetics, suitable for an active little boy who wants to run and climb, not all of which are available on the NHS and are costly beyond what we could ever afford. This is hard to swallow as parents who just want the best for their child.

Paul amazingly and kindly offered to run to raise money for William in 2020. Unfortunately covid put a stop to that but he has stuck to his word and is taking on the Sheffield half marathon to raise funds for William’s future. He is running to hopefully allow William to run again too. We are so grateful.

On Sunday 27th March, Paul will run the Sheffield half marathon. This is no mean feat with the route incorporating some of Sheffield’s big hills!

Every penny raised will be used to support William and hopefully make his future a little easier. We are so grateful to Paul and everyone who supports him. Thank you!
