Paper Bridges-- Sending Face Masks to Foster Youth

Tax deductible
As schools are starting to open around the country, many have mandated students to wear masks in order to attend classes, however, with PPE in short supply in many states, there are foster families that lack the resources to properly supply and equip foster youth. In systems where masks are optional for students, this inability to access PPE poses a significant yet preventable risk to the child's health.

Paper Bridges has partnered with Watchtower Supplies to provide over 100k masks to foster families, group homes, and treatment centers across the US. This fundraiser will help our organization cover shipping costs to deliver these masks to where they are most needed! The masks will be sent to youth in Arkansas, Arizona, Montana, West Virginia, Wyoming, South Carolina, North Dakota, Georgia, Texas, Illinois, North Dakota, Washington, Ohio, and California.

About Paper Bridges

Paper Bridges is a 501(c)(3) youth-led nonprofit established in 2017 with the aim of supporting orphans and vulnerable children both domestically and around the world. We are based in Maryland and have over 40 high school and university chapters located internationally that each work with orphans and foster children in their local community to provide material, educational, and emotional support. Our organization focuses on creating change through community empowerment and education and holds the belief that anyone can create a positive impact on a child's life, regardless of their age or resources. As a result, we are dedicated to creating and training a network of students to understand, advocate for, and support the needs of orphans and foster children.

Over the past three years, we have sent thousands of letters and care packages to our international partner orphanages, and have recently decided to expand our impact on the foster care system within the United States after learning about the significant shortcomings present in the current system.

As a result of the pandemic, much of our work has become digital, including our letter writing and supply drives. However, we are still committed to supporting vulnerable children in whatever way possible. We're currently in the process of working with state foster care directors in setting up peer tutoring & mentoring systems, as well as collaborating with advocacy organizations to promote relevant foster care legislative policy that ensures housing and educational stability for foster kids and individuals aging out of the foster system.

Since foster children commonly move between homes and centers with only days or weeks in between, having proper PPE is essential to prevent them from both contracting and spreading the virus. The combination of insufficient resources, guidance, and education children receive, not to mention the inability for abuse red flags to be spotted as a result of shelter-in-place, put these kids at a significantly higher risk during this pandemic. We hope to do whatever we can to support these children during these unprecedented times.
