To those who have journeyed with us as we have been navigating these years of infertility, and to those who are just joining us on this journey, welcome and thank you. Kassi and I are so grateful for each and every one of you!
God has given us the opportunity to travel to Mexico City on medical leave from work from October 4 to January 3 to work with Doctors and receive IVF (in-vitro fertilization) treatments. However, we can not do it without you! Through generous gifts and personal savings, we currently have nearly $8,000. But for living and treatment costs, we need another $7,000 to $10,000. Your generosity will help the door fully open to growing our family.
The Full Story
Many years ago the Lord began speaking to us about growing our family. Since 2012 we have been on a journey towards this. But we have been unable to become pregnant in the last 8 years. After meeting with an Endocrinologist here in San Francisco, and undergoing many tests, we have been unable to determine a cause for our infertility. Doctors have recommended that we undergo IVF (in-vitro fertilization) treatments to obtain a pregnancy. The cost of this in the US is beyond our means, as one round is nearly all that we make in one year, and doctors say it usually takes at least two rounds to become pregnant. Since that news in 2018, we have been praying for a way forward.
In 2019, we were given the opportunity to travel to Mexico with an outreach team to serve local YWAM staff as well as their local neighborhood and community. During this outreach, we became friends with YWAM Mexico City ministry leaders who introduced us to their friend, an infertility doctor. We believe this wasn't an accidental introduction. In January 2020 we returned to Mexico City to meet with the Doctor, and she agreed with our San Francisco Doctor’s recommendations of IVF treatment. The costs in Mexico are one-third of the costs here in the US.
We know that God does things in unique ways for everyone, and while we wouldn’t have chosen this path towards growing our family, other options like fostering and adoption are also out of reach for us. Living in a 200-square-foot studio in San Francisco really limits options. After a year and a half of apartment hunting and applications to Below Market Rate housing, we still have not received the answer to our housing prayers. Instead, God has opened the door for us to grow our family in Mexico City, and we trust Him for the journey.
