The mission of this campaign is to raise money to support the continued development of rock climbing in Palestine.
Vision
Our vision is to introduce new people to climbing in Palestine and to provide resources to the existing climbers in the community to pursue their goals. Five years from now, the climbing community in Palestine will be bigger, more active and more connected to the international climbing world.
Values
We will conduct this campaign with transparency, integrity, fairness, and a focus on the goal of spreading rock climbing in Palestine. A steering committee with representatives from the Palestine Climbers Association, Reel Rock, and The American Alpine Club will decide how the funds get used based on how much is raised.
History
In 2014, Tim Bruns and Will Harris launched Wadi Climbing, the first indoor rock climbing gym and outdoor guiding service in the West Bank. With the help of climbers from around the world, they bolted sport climbing routes at six new cliffs near Ramallah and introduced hundreds of new people to climbing. Today, there is a thriving and motivated group of local climbers, represented by the Palestine Climbers Association.
Goals
- help the Palestine Climbers Association protect and clean up crags like Yabrud
- create a fund to send Palestinian climbers to international competitions
- replace old and buy new climbing gear
- subsidize Wadi Climbing and Shams Climbing gyms
- buy new bolts and anchor stations
- encourage climbers from around the world to visit and climb in Palestine
