Pain to purpose - rebuilding the West –the Grange mission - Hurricane Melissa relief mission led by Emily Shields.
On the 27th and 28th October 2025, Hurricane Melissa devastated Western Jamaica. Few places were hit harder than the quiet rural community of Grange, Westmoreland. Homes were destroyed, families displaced, and livelihoods swept away.
This appeal is being led by Emily Shields CD— Broadcast Journalist now with Radio Jamaica and Attorney-at-Law.
Emily grew up in the beautiful deep rural community of Grange, where she attended the Grange Basic School, Wiiiamsfield All Age School, and later Manning's School in Savanna-la-Mar, the capital of Westmoreland. These schools have been substantially destroyed by Hurricane Melissa.
Emily has always maintained strong ties with her hometown. In the days following the hurricane, she and her husband, Mark Shields, and daughter, Zuri along with members of their team and Emily’s church community, travelled to Grange to deliver hundreds of hot meals, clothing, care packages, medical and emergency supplies to families in need.
But the destruction is vast — and rebuilding will take time, resources, and love.
Your contributions and donations will directly supply:
✅ Food, water, and emergency relief for displaced families
✅ Roof and home repairs for residents who lost shelter
✅ School supplies, clothing, and personal items for children.
Emily’s vision extends beyond her own community. She envisions the division of parishes into zones. Zones are to be made up of communities in each parish.
The zone on which Emily wishes to focus includes the communities of Grange, Glenbrook into Flower Hill, Content, Williamsfield and Fort William. These are communities which played an important and integral role in her upbringing, as a child in Westmoreland.
She is encouraging others from Western Jamaica — whether from Westmoreland, Hanover, or St. Elizabeth or other parishes — to “adopt a zone” and replicate similar missions in their hometowns.
This is not just about rebuilding homes — it’s about restoring hope, dignity, and community.
Your support for this mission is desired. Please donate to the cause.
“We are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers. The great commandment is for us to love our neighbours as we love ourselves. Let’s help "pain to purpose - rebuilding the West - the Grange mission, and all of Western Jamaica, rise again.”
With love,
— Emily Shields CD
