Help Derrick and Jessa during a medical crisis
Donation protected
Just days before Christmas, Derrick Hausen and his wife Jessa French were walking in their neighborhood when a drunk driver ran a red light and struck Derrick at a high rate of speed. As Derrick lay critically injured and unconscious in the road, the driver fled the scene.
Derrick was hit with such extreme force that he was left with multiple life-threatening injuries including traumatic brain injury, severe internal bleeding and fractures of the hip and pelvis. For weeks his life hung in the balance in the ICU. It is truly a miracle that Derrick survived.
For anyone who doesn’t personally know them, all I can say is that to be their friend is a blessing. They are both selfless, creative, and hard-working people who cherish each other while caring for their friends, their family, and their community. Together, they write stories that move us, especially while making us laugh. For more than 20 years they have worked to make life better for those around them. There are countless stories of their generous acts... from donating their time to help fellow artists succeed, to Derrick’s 12 years of service in the sober community.
One senseless act has changed Derrick and Jessa’s lives forever. They need help and now is the time to return the favor of their unwavering love and kindness.
Recovery from a traumatic brain injury is a long and unpredictable journey – one with no timeline or guaranteed outcome. Jessa has stepped away from her job to focus on her husband’s survival and continued care. Derrick’s future ability to work remains unknown. He needs continued rehabilitation and medical care, possibly for years. When he can go home, he will require 24-hour supervised care and Jessa will be by his side.
I can assure you of one thing: No matter how challenging this next chapter is, Derrick and Jessa will find the positive in each situation and continue to uplift and inspire people across the world. But as they navigate this new, uncertain future, the stress of overwhelming debt looms large for them.
Imagine being dealt this unforeseen and traumatic blow. Months of hospital bills and more to come for who knows how long? Add to the stress of this situation the fact that both incomes are now gone.
While it is never easy to ask for monetary help, the gravity of this situation compels me to ask on their behalf. Any donation will help alleviate this massive financial burden and allow Derrick and Jessa to heal, move forward, and face a new future.
Please consider sharing this campaign with your networks and loved ones. Your kindness, generosity, and support are appreciated beyond words.
