Support Manu's Journey to Independence and Healing

Hello, I'm Raphaela, Manu’s sister and creating this GoFundMe to share my sister’s story and to seek your support. In June of 2021, Manu's life was forever changed when she was involved in a car accident, resulting in her becoming a quadriplegic (C4/C5). Since the accident, Manu's life has taken a turn towards recovery and adaptation, a path defined by her new circumstances.

Manu has shown remarkable progress, particularly in the first year of her rehabilitation. However, the financial burden of ongoing physiotherapy, mental health therapy, and necessary adaptations for her new lifestyle is overwhelming. Additionally, she is living with borderline personality disorder, which intertwines with her physical recovery in complex ways.

Our mother, now over 60, has been her primary caregiver, a role that is both emotionally and physically taxing. We aim to alleviate this burden by securing the help of professional nurses and therapists, ensuring that Manu receives the best possible care for both her physical and mental health needs.

The funds raised through this campaign will directly support Manu's multifaceted treatment plan. This includes continuous therapy for her BPD – a crucial aspect of her overall recovery – specialized rehabilitation, and physiotherapy sessions. Additionally, the funds will help cover the costs of necessary equipment and adaptations to enhance Manu's independence, such as wheelchair upgrades and assistive devices for computer and phone usage.

Recently, Manu has been accepted into SARAH, a renowned government facility for individuals with physical disabilities. While the one month program is free, the associated costs of travel to Brasilia (we live in Garopaba), accommodation, and caregiver support are not. Your contribution will also assist in covering these expenses, ensuring that Manu can take full advantage of this incredible opportunity.

My partner Quinn and I have spent significant time in Brazil supporting Manu and our mother. However, we must continue our work in Canada to financially support them from afar, including funding trips back to Brazil during critical times. This GoFundMe campaign is a bridge that will help us manage this challenging period.
