Owen's Fight for a Fresh Start
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Angelina and I am organizing this for a man named Owen. I am a part of a nonprofit organization called Youth StreetReach in Hyannis, which provides breakfast, clothes, company, and friendship for those who are struggling with homelessness. I have been a part of StreetReach for nearly four years now and have created a backpack drive filled with essential toiletries, sweatshirts, scarves, hats, and gloves that I give out each December. However, this GoFundMe is not about myself.
In December, I met a guy named Owen. Owen’s story caused a striking impact on me due to him being the same age as my brother and the realization that at any point, any of us could become homeless. Owen wants to get back on his feet and wants to achieve so much. Owen needs at the bare minimum $400 in order to pay off excise taxes due to his car insurance and get an ID again. I am looking for $1000 to help him with other things including money for food, warm clothes, and money for a bus pass. I have found him jobs to potentially get; however, he cannot get a job without an ID because he will not be able to make a bank account without an ID. His dedication to wanting to get a job should not be stopped due to these conditions. If you are able to donate, please do; anything can help.
Additionally here is some Q&A information with Owen.
Q: How did you end up where you are right now?
A: I was in Burlington, Vermont around Thanksgiving 2024. I was outside and woke up to someone stealing my wallet and phone. I then moved back to MA and entered St. Joseph’s shelter. Since then I have been trying to get my ID back and my social security card back, all of the things I lost when I got robbed.
Q: Where is your family?
A: Scattered across MA, my close family is taking care of my dad who has dementia. So their hands are tied resulting in them not being able to help me out right now.
Q: Why should people donate to your cause?
A: I’ve really been dealt a bad hand recently. I have an upcoming surgery on my thyroid due to a genetic condition my dad had. I have been recently displaced from the shelter. Even through all of this I have not let it effect my sobriety or my motivation to get back on my feet. There are just certain things that I need to take care of to get a job and get a license back. Once I can achieve this I will be able to take complete care of myself and be my best self.
Q: What are your plans if the funds are provided?
A: Immediately pay off my excise tax, get an ID to have proof of identification for work, take my driver recertification class for my license, and get myself housing.
