My name is Tina and I’m seeking help with my community outreach activities. I provide food & essentials to our unhoused population, plus some seniors and people with disabilities. I’ve been providing services and connection on a voluntary basis for the past few years.

I go out into Parksville and the Regional District of Nanaimo twice weekly (Thursdays & Sundays). Each day, I go through about 12-15 litres of homemade soup, at least 6 loaves of assorted sandwiches, some type of warm dinner, drinks, fruit, and homemade desserts. Plus, I ensure pockets are filled with portable snacks for later. I also deliver food hampers to some folks living rough. I connect with about 50 people twice a week. And I provide about 150-200 meals.

I keep my vehicle stocked with bedding & blankets, essential clothing, hygiene products, tarps, first aid supplies, etc.

I’m really needing support from friends, family, and others right now! Rain is getting inside my outreach van and the interior is becoming wet. Rainwater also trickles onto the supplies I want to transport to aid folks in need. I really need help to get the van winterized.

Regular yearly costs to operate my van involve almost $1000 for insurance, plus fuel (which we all know is expensive) and general maintenance like oil changes. Like many of my other outreach expenses, those costs come out of my own pocket.

I’m fundraising to help with getting the leaks fixed, I’d also like to get proper waterproof seat covers, and a waterproof floor covering for the back. I also really wish for a retractable awning which can attach to the van, allowing me to serve and connect with people without getting drenched in the rain.

Special “wish list” items include a pop-up tent and a little propane fireplace. That will allow people to get out of the cold rain while they eat and temporarily get warmed up.

Any extra funds that come in will be used for all the costs associated with my outreach activities.
