Greetings,
I am James Luther Moore, IV. I am a graduating senior at Hayfield Secondary School. I am also a Life Scout in Troop 1107 working on my Eagle Scout Rank. To attain the Eagle Rank, I must earn at least 21 merit badges, fulfill leadership roles, display outdoor skills, demonstrate by example the Scout Oath and Law, and complete a comprehensive service project in the community. Thankfully, I have achieved all requirements thus far, except for my service project.
The service project will test my ability to raise funds, manage a budget, and manage a team to help with the project. This is where I would like to have your support.
THE PROJECT
I will have the honor of installing beautiful, black, wrought iron benches at Charles Houston Recreation Center in Alexandria, VA. There will be two benches placed outside the senior center for outdoor seating. There are X# seniors currently being served at the center. However, right outside their facility there is no outdoor seating. The wrought iron benches will compliment the other benches on the property. They will also be adorned with Charles Houston's name on a plate.
WHY I CHOSE THIS PROJECT
I chose this project because I wanted to think about how to help and payback the elders in the community. They have paved the way and endured challenging times that created a better life for my generation. Additionally, the Alexandria area is a historic area. The recreation center itself was once the Parker-Gray School which opened during segregation in 1920 for children in grades 1-8. It had nine teachers and the barest necessities.
USE OF FUNDS
The funds raised will be used to purchase the two wrought iron benches and the necessary supplies to accompany cementing.
CULMINATION
At the end of the bench installation and inspection, a formal unveiling will take place in which we will host residential community members, friends, family and especially the seniors of Charles Houston Recreation Center.
I hope that you will be able to support my Eagle Scout project. If you have questions, please feel free to let me know.
Sincerely,
James L Moore IV
