Kate, Nora & Izzy's Guatemala Trip

Hello Reader!
My name is Izzy Townsend, I am 13 and I was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
At 5 months old I was adopted into a warm and supportive family from Connecticut. I live with two parents, my older brother Greg, and my younger sister Nora, who was also adopted from Guatemala and who shares the same birth family as me.
As years passed, I gained more and more interest in going back to Guatemala again to see my birth family. After getting in touch with my family and hearing their story, I came to the conclusion that not only did I want to reunite with them, but I wanted to help the people that were in the same situation as them. My adoptive mother Kate, my aunt and I planned a trip to go to Guatemala in March of 2015 with Our Guatemala Service Travel Organization. We arrived March 6th 2015 and started our service work the next morning. We spent a few hours each day at El Amor De Patricia Orphanage and the rest of the day we would deliver bunk beds, clothes, personal hygiene items and school supplies to families in all different parts of Guatemala.
After an emotional but fun three days of bonding with the babies at the orphanage and with the families in Guatemala, I got the chance to meet my two sisters (Nora's full sister and my full sister), my mom and my nephew.
We then set off for Lake Atitlan for cliff jumping, swimming, touring, discovering and relaxing.
Leaving Guatemala was hard to do after what an incredible experience it was. Going through the houses in Guatemala was heartbreaking. Within the very little period of time spent in each home, I got attached to many of the kids. Saying goodbye to them was very challenging to do. I felt like no matter how much I give to the families, it will never be enough. The week of the trip was by far the best week of my life and I am so lucky that I will be able to go back this July. This time around Nora, my mom and I will be the leaders of our group which we named Todo es Possible. I am so happy to say that we have decided to invite more friends and family! From July 9th-16th we be delivering bunk beds and more necessary items to the families of Guatemala. We will also spend our days with the kids at El Amor De Patricia and we will give them as many supplies as we can. Each bed costs $180 and we are kindly asking you to help us provide for these families in need. Our goal is to raise enough money for 10 bunk beds and if we exceed our goal we will buy sheets, food, person hygiene items and school supplies for the families. After hearing my mothers story, poverty has come to a personal level and I hope I can help each and every person in Guatemala as much as I can. On behalf of my family, my friends, and the families in Guatemala, we thank you for your generous donations.
XoXo,
Izzy
