Our Wish For Jan

Hi, my name is Evon, myself and Maxine are raising money for our beautiful co-worker and friend Jan so that she can take time away from work to be with her son Jack in his final stage of this journey.

Jack really is an amazing young man who was diagnosed at a young age with a rare brain tumour.

At the age of 15 years old Jack was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma brain tumour. There was found to be another little one which they think had seeded from the first main one.

He underwent brain surgery, 30 sessions of radiation and 7 months of gruesome chemotherapy. It took its toll on Jack, getting ataxia from the surgery, foot drop from the chemo and of course the hair loss which has never really grown back properly.

We thought all was well as Jack had 3 monthly, MRI scans to check on him. About 12 months after treatment was completed, the second little tumour reared its ugly ahead again. Jack received another 18 doses of radiation on the tumour. We thought that had done the trick but it came back again! It is in a position where no more radiation is possible as it would send Jack blind or worse.

The oncologists have said this second one is a very rare variation of the tumour and were trying to find drugs that could eradicate it. Not an easy feat apparently. They were in touch with the USA but unfortunately help wasn’t available to try and reduce the tumour. The oncologists were actively trying to find any trials or drugs that may help Jack. Not easy.

A child having cancer would of been enough for anyone to deal with but it doesn’t stop there Jan herself was recently diagnosed with cancer, she underwent treatment whilst still caring for her son and thankfully is now in remission.

Sadly Jack, now 23 years old has grown tired and is now palliative with only a short time left.

We would really like to be in a position to help Jan spend every moment with her beautiful son Jack. After exhausting all her leave options over the years we aim to raise enough to enable her to stay home as long as she can to be with him, I think this can resonate with anyone.

Life really hasn’t been fair to this lovely family.
