Our surrogacy journey- The Laughtons
Hello, our names are Jayne and Doug, we have been together 11 years and married for 3. We have a wonderful fur baby but the only thing missing from our lives is our own baby.
I never ever thought that we would be doing this, but here we are.
We have made the difficult decision to turn too you all for help as a complete last resort in having our dream of becoming a family. We really have questioned whether to do this for a long time because I’ve been so scared of receiving a negative response, but I believe that we will truly be the best parents we can be and want nothing more than that opportunity. As well as the opportunity to make our parents grandparents and to give our siblings a niece/nephew and give our nieces and nephews a cousin.
We are asking for help towards helping us to become a family, as we are at the point were everything has been against us and we are out of options!
I was born with MRKH a condition were I can not carry my own child. I was born without a womb but have fully functional ovaries. It’s been a heartbreaking condition to live with and to come to terms with and my only option to have my own biological child is through surrogacy.
Funding from the government has been declined 3 times and we have appealed every time. Our local MP has been involved to help get funding. Unfortunately we do not qualify for any funding for IVF, as a surrogate will be involved and this is our only chance.
We are saving like crazy, but time is the biggest factor in our journey as we always presumed we would have funding available to us, as its a fertility issue I was born with.
There are thousands of women in the UK who either do not have a viable womb or who have lost their womb following cancer or another serious illness. Not only does this result in childlessness, but women with infertility suffer depression, negatively perceive their own femininity and have a two-fold increase risk of suicide.
I have spent the last 20 years suffering and coming to terms firsthand the profound psychological impact it has on my life and future. It is clear how much it would mean for me, who was born without a womb (through no fault of my own) to undergo a womb transplant so I can experience becoming pregnant & carry my own baby, but this is just not possible due to the cost! so my husband and I are hoping surrogacy will be our best option!
A word about Surrogacy!!
It's a funny thing, surrogacy. The laws around it, and the costs, vary massively from one country to another. The UK is not as progressive as we had hoped when it comes to surrogacy and this means that, like 48% of others who use surrogacy, we may have to consider a number of international options or trying to use someone we know as a surrogate so we can make our miracle baby.
Either way, we anticipate needing to spend over £20k- £30k
These costs go towards surrogate expenses, fertility treatment (IVF), agency and legal fees. We have done lots of research about it, and could tell you all about it in great detail, but brilliantbeginnings.co.uk is really useful for finding out more.
With your help, we can finally make our dream come true. If you don't have money to donate yourself, please share to everyone you know to help spread the word. A small amount of money donated by a large number of people will help us reach our goal!
I would like to thank you in advance for any donation you can spare towards our journey or for any support shown in both the past, present and future. You really don’t know how much it means to us.
We are so lucky to have an amazing family and friends who hold our hands through everything. We are truly grateful to everyone.
We look forward to making it happen and keeping you all updated along the way on this wonderful journey we are embarking upon together.
Lots of love,
Jayne & Doug
