Our little dragon Maeve ❤️❤️
Donation protected
It is a rare occasion I post on social media.
But I am here to ask you to consider making a difference in one of my best friends lives.
I am asking for your money, for your prayers + to donate blood/platelets.
Her world was rocked and she has handled it with grace.
Hop to it people.
And squeeze your babies even tighter tonight.

"First and foremost, Zach and I cannot say thank you enough for the love, prayers, and support sent to our family as we’ve been navigating this nightmare.
We appreciate all of you. ❤️
As most of you know, on 10/1, Maeve got really sick. After a trip to urgent care, and then the ER, she was transferred to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
After a week of lots of tears, tests, and little sleep… The amazing doctors at CHLA determined that Maeve has a very rare disease and was/is in acute kidney failure.
She has been fighting this fight since birth, and has been a champ adapting to it and thriving before anyone knew about it. The doctors were shocked that she had continued to grow and thrive, given the state of her kidneys.
Unfortunately, her liver doesn’t process a specific enzyme which controls how much oxalate is in her blood, then when the blood goes to her kidneys to be filtered, it can’t and becomes calcified, therefore becoming “stuck” and bringing us to this moment in time.
She’s currently admitted at CHLA and undergoing daily dialysis treatment (between 14-20 hrs/day) to manage the kidney failure and ensue the oxalate doesn’t impact any other organs/bones/etc. Once she’s big enough, she will need to undergo both a liver and kidney transplant.
Until then, the plan is for her to have surgeries to place 2 different dialysis catheters. One catheter will be to remove the oxalate and that dialysis will be done by the team at CHLA. The other catheter will allow her to come HOME, and this dialysis will run while she sleeps, performing the function of her kidneys.
She. has undergone 1 of the 2 surgeries to date. Once the 2nd surgery occurs, it will take 2 weeks to heal and then they’ll start splitting up the dialysis treatments. The CHLA team will also begin to teach Zach and I how to do the at home treatment.
Exact time frame for all of this likely another 6-8 weeks at CHLA, then ongoing trips to CHLA for dialysis treatments until it’s transplant time (and likely even after that…)
While it breaks our heart seeing our baby like this- she’s proven to be a fighting, fire breathing dragon and so tough. We are so proud to be her parents.
We thank all of you for your support, prayers and love for Maeve, Zach and I. We are surrounded by such an amazing community.
We’ll let you know once we get our girl home. ❤️❤️
Love, Shannon & Zach"
