We are raising money for our friends who are stuck in Mexico waiting for the documents they need to get home. In order to protect the identities of our friends for their safety, the photos attached to this fundraiser are of some local sights seen on their trip and of the two puppies who are waiting for their humans to come home.

When Shannon set out on her journey to help her friend stay safe in Mexico and get back home safely, she expected the trip to take up to two weeks and budgeted time and money for a week beyond that just in case. Since then, both women, who have lived their entire lives in the United States, have met with delay after unjustified delay caused by everything from minor clerical errors to gaping systemic deficiencies to on the part of our own government. They have done everything in their power to urge, beg and demand the officials in charge of their case to issue the standard, simple documentation which those same officials agree that our friends are entitled to.

At every turn both women have been met with a frankly shocking level of disregard for their safety. Due to this indifference from our government, our friends are now stuck in an unfamiliar country for an indefinite period of time with no ability to earn money to survive or tell their employer, families, or landlords when they will be able to return.

As horrible as this situation sounds, it is not unheard of, and it is not even unique to the current administration. Innocent Americans go through similar tribulations every year through no fault of their own, while simply trying to do normal, constructive things like visit family, take a vacation, travel for school or work, comply with our immigration policies, or even do charity work.

We know times are hard right now for pretty much anyone who isn't a billionaire. That is why the target amount for this fundraiser was chosen with such great care, and calculated to be just enough to make sure our friends have food and shelter for the next couple of weeks. We would rather have to do this again at the beginning of December than ask for more than we think they will need. That having been said, if our friends' luck does turn around before the amount raised is spent on keeping them safe and fed, the remainder will be used to help pay for legal representation for a Dreamer whose lawyer is helping them adjust status.
