Our friend, colleague and comrade Eoghan Sweeney has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. The news has come as a shock to all of us who know him, and a group of his former colleagues decided to launch this GoFundme to provide financial support to his family at this time.

Many of you will know Eoghan through his decades-long career in journalism, which has brought him all over the world. He has spent the last decade or so inspiring a new generation of journalists through his work with Storyful, the Google News Initiative, First Draft, and others, training journalists in Ireland, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Australia, and many more besides. There is nobody better to learn from, as many of his students and colleagues will attest.

Eoghan is also a devoted husband to Ji-eun, and a father to two wonderful children, Ferdia and Nella, as well as being a proud and long-suffering Sligo Rovers fan.

It is very difficult to put into words how much Eoghan means to all of us who have worked with him down through the years. We hope we can go some way to showing our appreciation through this GoFundMe.

All of the money raised will go towards financially supporting Ji-eun, Ferdia, and Nella.
