Our family’s new beginnings; from Haiti to the US
Donation protected
We are raising funds to get to a US Embassy in a safe country within the Caribbean. From there it’s on to the US to go to our daughter’s immigration appointment so she can become a US citizen! There are very few countries we can fly to from Haiti. Jamaica is our only option at this point.
To go to port au prince at this point for the Visa requires multiple helicopter trips which would put us in the 10’s of thousands we would need to raise just to get the visa and out of Haiti.
Our world can be so unnecessarily difficult at times.
And it’s just very high risk due to gang activities. So Jamaica it is.
Currently a 1 way ticket is $923 per person to Jamaica from Cap Haitian. We also have to get a Jamaican visa for Our Haitian daughter which is $350.
I have the full price breakdown below. We have to raise $9144.26:
$185 application for a US embassy appt
$110 Translation of important adoption documents
350 jamaican visa
3645.26 Flights to Jamaica
$1300 Airbnb near embassy costs (12 nights)
Est $500 Food for 12 days
Est $250 Transportation
$1804 Flights to US
$1000 Lawyer fees we paid already
TOTAL 9144.26
I had to recalculate. I thought the visa would be done in 1 or 2 days., but it takes 7-10 days usually. So the Airbnb costs went up by a lot.
We also had paid $1000 for our lawyer and now about half of our monthly donors have stopped their giving so we really need those lawyer fees covered.
I was hoping to not have to raise so much, but the actual costs for this whole trip have added up very quickly.
We are so ready to be done with all of these systems and challenges once Sandra becomes an US citizen! Our daughter is adopted, we celebrated, however I knew that this whole visa process would be burdensome. Bear with us as we seek to get Sandra safely into the US.
It has been a wild 9 year ride, with cancer, two emergency surgeries, multiple country-wide lockdowns & evacuations, Hurricanes, Gang threats, shootings, and ministry buildings burned down, and much more.
It has all been for the lost, hurting, & broken, who need Jesus.
It has all been for him & the least of these.
our organization will continue in Haiti! We are not done.
