Help Us Give Our Dad the Peace He Deserves

On 22 August 2006, our dad was murdered. In a single moment, we lost a loving father and grandad. Although his murderer was convicted, our family has lived with the consequences every day since.

Because of the criminal investigation, Dad could not be buried beside our mum and had to be laid to rest alone.

For almost twenty years, visiting his grave has brought fear instead of comfort. His memorial has been damaged more than once, keepsakes have been taken, and we have lived with constant anxiety about encountering people connected to the case. Despite reporting incidents and repeatedly asking for help, we were left without a solution that allowed us to feel safe visiting Dad's grave.

In June 2026, Dad’s murderer died in custody. We were informed that there was nothing in the current arrangements to prevent him from being buried or for his ashes to be scattered in the same cemetery as our dad.

After exhausting every possible option, we have been left with one heartbreaking decision: to exhume our dad. This is the only way we can protect his dignity and ensure his memory is no longer overshadowed by the man who took his life.

Why We Need Help

We have contacted solicitors, charities, victim support organisations and other agencies, but we have been unable to secure any funding. We are now facing these costs alone.

Exhumations are rare, and obtaining precise quotations has been extremely difficult. Based on the estimates we have received, the total cost could exceed £25,000 if legal proceedings become prolonged.

If any good can come from this painful journey, we hope it will be through donating Dad’s headstone, so it can be refurbished and given to a family who could not otherwise afford a memorial.
