You may know Rebecca from her work to foster ‘Community Conversations’ on race equity in education, or her expansive work to serve Southeastern NC families impacted by Hurricane Florence. You may have volunteered when she organized an operation to deliver school meals to children after COVID-19 closed the schools, and you may even be wearing a protective mask handmade by volunteers she coordinated to provide free masks to anyone who needs them in the county.
You may know that Rebecca is an archer for justice-- what you may not know is that she does not receive any financial reimbursement for the services she takes on.
Here is a list of some of the significant projects that Rebecca has worked on lately:
-Tirelessly organizing and advocating for basic food and supplies to be distributed to our community’s most vulnerable after the devastation of Hurricane Florence.
-Founding Community Conversations, an organization working for educational equality. Rebecca was the primary vehicle in advocating for change in our school board after multiple racist incidents within our school system. She brought together members of the black community, white community, and key players in our school system to have important conversations about race, racism, and the future of New Hanover County Schools.
-She is Founder of Champions for Compassion, an organization focused on restoring hope and removing obstacles to recovery. Champions for Compassion also works to remove the stigma of addiction and mental health disorders.
-Founder of the local initiative “Cover our PEEPS”, a movement to supply free masks to people at risk, the elderly, essential workers, and public transportation patrons during our ongoing global coronavirus pandemic. This initiative has given out hundreds of free masks to the people in our community who need them the most.
Many people have cheered Rebecca on for her community efforts, but we feel it is time to financially back her in the work she does in and for our community. Rebecca needs (and we think deserves) our financial support. She is not asking for this but some of her friends are insisting that we offer this small gesture of support. To say Rebecca is a good neighbor would be an understatement. She has a heart for this place and is deeply devoted to supporting everyone around her. Now she needs our support.
Let’s show Rebecca how much Wilmington appreciates her! Thank you in advance for any and all support. ❤️
