Over the past years, funds for services for my sons and other people with disabilities have been cut over and over. Agencies all over the state are struggling to continue to provide invaluable services to some of the most vulnerable in our society. In Governor Hochul’s 2023 budget announcement, she made a 2 hour speech without once mentioning “developmental disabilities”.
My sons have received services though Ohel for years, and our Raffi currently lives in one of their group homes where he is loved and cared for in a way I could only have imagined for him in my dreams. He is a happy young man living his best life.
Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services was first founded in 1969 to provide foster care placement for Jewish families. In 54 years since then, it grew into a full-service agency that meets needs of more than 23,000 individuals from all communities. OHEL is the most trusted haven of safety and support, providing services that help build lives, and strengthen families, homes and communities to face social, developmental and emotional challenges.
If you can donate, any amount would be appreciated. If you can’t, please pass this message along, and say a prayer for the ones we love most and all the ones who need help and can’t advocate for themselves.
