Our Baby Was Taken When We Needed Help — Now We Owe $100K
Donation protected
We were falsely accused of child abuse and our baby was taken from us — not by strangers, but by the very system we turned to for help. After 1,174 days apart and nearly $100,000 already paid in legal fees, we’ve finally been exonerated by a jury of our peers. But we still owe $100,000 and need help rebuilding our lives.
Full Story:
“I rocked my baby to sleep in our home that night for the very last time.”
Our baby was essentially kidnapped — not by a stranger, but by the very system we turned to for help.
My name is Carrie Timms, and I’m a mother from Calhoun, Georgia. On January 14, 2022, our world shattered when our infant son, Jameson, was taken from our arms after a cascade of false accusations based on misunderstood medical symptoms. We were falsely accused of abuse while doing everything we could to get our baby the medical help he needed.
We lived without Jameson in our home for exactly 1,174 days. That’s 1,174 mornings without his giggle. 1,174 nights without rocking him to sleep. And 1,174 days of heartbreak, silence, and relentless fighting to bring the truth to light.
In April 2025, after a long and painful battle, we were finally exonerated — but not before paying nearly $100,000 in legal fees. We still owe around $100,000 more just to close this chapter.
What Happened to Us Was Medical and Legal Kidnapping
Jameson developed unusual red and purple skin markings at six weeks old. We feared leukemia or something serious and sought medical help. All test results were normal. Even the initial DFCS worker and detective said it appeared medical, not abuse-related.
But a child abuse pediatrician accused us — without showing us any X-rays, ignoring Jameson’s symptoms, and refusing to allow a second opinion. Her word became law. That one accusation was enough for DFCS to remove our baby from our care.
This is what’s called medical and legal kidnapping — when innocent parents lose their children because of a single unchallenged medical opinion, enforced by a system that strips away due process and truth.
⚖️ A Month-Long Trial. Three Hours of Deliberation.
We endured a month-long trial. We brought expert witnesses. Jameson had been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) — a connective tissue disorder that made his symptoms medically explainable.
Still, the child abuse pediatrician testified that:
“Babies don’t feel pain”
“Bruises don’t change color over time”
Despite the absurdity, the jury deliberated just three hours before returning the verdict that finally cleared our names. But the emotional and financial wreckage had already been done.
We Can’t Sue. No One Will Be Held Accountable.
We are unable to sue. The statute of limitations has run out, and the doctors, DFCS workers, and state actors are protected by qualified immunity. The people who tore our family apart will never be held accountable in court.
Every Parent’s Worst Nightmare
What happened to us is every parent’s worst nightmare — seeking medical help for your child, only to be arrested, accused, and separated, while trying to protect them.
No one listened. No one helped. And yet, so many families are still going through this right now.
This Isn’t Your Burden — But You’re Helping Us Carry It
We never wanted to ask for help like this. But the reality is: we’ve already paid everything we could — and we still owe $100,000 in legal fees just to defend our innocence and be reunited with our son.
Your donation helps us:
Pay off the rest of this crushing debt
Rebuild our family and future
Keep fighting for our full reunification
Advocate for others going through the same injustice
