Our home in San Fernando City, La Union has been in our family for generations. Sadly, on 24 July 2025, Hurricane Emong destroyed it—floodwaters rushed in and the roof and ceiling were torn off. Because the house is on low ground, it has been flooded many times before. This time, we can’t manage the repairs alone. Please help us restore our family home and make it livable again for my mother and sibling.
Hello, my name is Lizzle Mercurio, and I am humbly reaching out for help during a heartbreaking time for my family.
My mother and younger sibling live in San Fernando City, La Union, Philippines 2500. For years, our ancestral home has endured one typhoon after another. Each time, we repaired what we could, but the house is built on low flooring and floods easily.
When Hurricane Emong struck, it was the worst they have ever experienced. The floodwaters entered quickly, destroying belongings, and the strong winds ripped off the roof and ceiling. Now the house is unsafe and unlivable. My family has no choice but to build a new elevated, flood-safe home to survive future typhoons.
I am currently in Canada with my husband and our newborn baby. My husband is a full-time international student and only works part-time, which barely covers our food and basic expenses. I am on maternity leave and caring for our baby, so it is very hard to send financial help to my family during this emergency. It breaks my heart to see my family with no safe place to stay and not be able to help them fully.
