Orla’s Fight Against Medulloblastoma!!

Our beautiful 2 year old daughter, Orla “Boss Baby” Tuckwell, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour called Medulloblastoma in September 2022 when she was 21 months old.

She has already battled through 3 major operations, and is now in the middle of induction chemotherapy which she is fighting hard against before commencing high dose chemotherapy in early 2023.

Medulloblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumour in children. Only around 55 children in the UK are diagnosed with it each year. With Orla’s Sub type SHH activated - desmoplastic being most common in infants under 3, however Orla also has a rare mutant variant called MYCN amplification. Because less is known about what this means in her sub type she is high risk meaning she is following the high risk protocol for treatment. At this stage Orla is too young for radiotherapy because of the permanent impact it would have on her brain.
