Oriana's Yoga for First Responders Training
Our First Responders deserve body-mind-spirit support for all they offer us.
As an RYT200 (Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance), I can provide guidance through yoga practice AND I can do better.
I am fundraising to take Level 1 & 2 Yoga for First Responder's Training in Knoxville, TN August 16-21, 2021. https://www.yogaforfirstresponders.org/instructor-school
This is a unique opportunity to learn, as a civilian, alongside police officers and fire fighters. The plan is to bring the mind-sets and skill-sets back to our area and offer yoga classes for all our First Responders.
I began teaching yoga through two studios including Wild Grace Arts & Yoga Loft in Olympia, WA after completing training in 2012. When I went to work at the WA State Department of Corrections in 2016, I quickly learned how staff at the Training Academy needed the support yoga can offer and provided a free weekly class for officers, staff, and instructors. Through Yoga Behind Bars training in 2017, I then offered class to men incarcerated at Washington Corrections Center for two years. Taking my practice to the next level, I want the training necessary to offer Yoga for First Responders.
For my day job, I work at a small non-profit, The Dispute Resolution Center for Thurston County, teaching conflict-resolution and communication skills. I am in my third year of graduate school in the University of Washington's Master's in Social Work program and for the next year interning with the Lakewood Police Department. I volunteer with the Peer Support Program as a Lead Advisor and as a Crisis Negotiation Team member with the Thurston County Sheriff's Office. I am committed to the safety and wellness of our communities and believe yoga is a meaningful and supportive practice to get us there. For more about me, check out: www.humanresolve.org
