Orchard Street Gatehouse Restoration Fundraiser
Tax deductible
Hi, I'm Paul Wood, the secretary/historian for the Orchard Street Gatehouse Historical Association and along with President Barbara Wood and Treasurer Keith Titus, I am raising funds for the Association. Recently, the Morris County Board of Commissioners approved awarding the Orchard Street Gatehouse Historical Association two grants totaling $270,000 for restoration work on the Orchard Street Cemetery's historic 1875 Gatehouse. We will be lifting the building and rebuilding the foundation along with some other work. The total project cost is $338,000. These grants require a 20% match to receive the funds so we need to raise the final $68,000 for this project! The work being done on the Gatehouse is essential as the foundation to the structure is collapsing and we estimate that without this work, within a couple of years, the Gatehouse will collapse. The Orchard Street Cemetery is Dover's oldest existing cemetery having been founded in 1851. There are over 120 veterans buried in the cemetery from the War of 1812 (5), the Civil War (56), the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, and Vietnam. Founders and prominent members of the area were all buried here. This cemetery served Dover, Wharton, Mine Hill, Randolph, and Rockaway for many years.
Your contribution, no matter how small, helps us foster a deeper connection to our shared past and strengthens our community. Together, we can ensure that the stories of those who came before us are not forgotten. Thank you for your generosity! All funds donated to this fundraiser will benefit and support the restoration, maintenance, and upkeep of the 150 year old Gatehouse as we navigate 3 stages of restoration.
Your donations are tax exempt as we are a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
