Nepal in hunger and desperation during Covid-19 Pandemic
We cannot fight against Covid when we are losing against hunger. In the recent rise of pandemic deaths and catastrophes in Nepal, citizens are fighting against the virus with bare minimum resources and a stomach full of hunger. With the exponential increase in cases and deaths and lack of PCR tests and vaccines, the Government of Nepal has announced a second lockdown as a public health emergency. Without any safety nets, the lockdown has halted the income source of daily wage workers and low-income households. In addition, lack of funds and resources makes it difficult for communities to come together and help vulnerable individuals. Nepal is struggling with resources right now which significantly affects the economically compromised areas outside Kathmandu Valley. If we do not take any steps now, we will have to witness helpless individuals losing the fight against the pandemic. We urge you to support us in our effort to show international cooperation in these trying times.
Who are we?
Bignaharta Nepal is a not-for-profit organization based in Kathmandu, Nepal established by a group of Nepali youths with the mission of creating self-sustainable communities in the most remote parts of the country. We have been working on the sector of poverty alleviation, disaster risk reduction, socio-economic development, and social entrepreneurship.
Where will your donations go and what sort of aid will your donations provide?
Your donations will help provide basic food, sanitation, and medicinal packages to the pandemic-affected households. The fund will also be used to buy PPE suits for the struggling frontline workers. We also will be providing oxygen cylinders and PCR tests to individuals who cannot afford them during its shortage in the country currently.
How do we work?
We have identified vulnerable households in the rural areas in Jumla, Kailai, Hetauda, Janakpur, and Biratnagar in Nepal. We will be directly communicating with the local aid workers, activists, and youths working with us. With the identification of the number of members in the households and their needs, Bighnaharta Nepal team will transfer the donated funds to the local mobilizers. The local mobilizers will in turn buy the supplies and distribute them to the households. A clear channel of communication will be maintained for the coordination with the team as well as with the local governing body to maintain transparency and avoid any duplication in providing relief.
With this campaign, we aim to do our part to help the people in need in these unfortunate times and we request you to help us in our mission.
How can you ensure your donations will go to people in need?
The entire process of receiving the funds, expenses incurred for the supplies, and distribution to the households will be made transparent via Bighnaharta Nepal Facebook page and Instagram page.
