Help support our baby Amaya's open heart surgery
Donation protected
Amaya Kathryn was born on September 23, 2020 at 5lbs-15oz and 18in, with two small holes in her heart - she was diagnosed with a Complete Atrioventricular Canal Defect (ACD). Our little girl is currently thriving - we need her to continue to be strong and grow steadily for as long as possible, in preparation for open heart surgery at 8-9 months old at Phoenix Children's Hospital, which hopefully will repair the defect.
Ben and Karen are both combat veterans - Ben, a 100% disabled Marine and Karen, a former Army officer who started working again full time 2 weeks after her emergency c section, are working hard to support Amaya. $500 a month for health insurance, on top of deductibles and non-covered support, unpaid time off, existing medical bills from mom's surgery, trips to Phoenix for appointments and a planned stay near the hospital for Amaya's one-week recovery are already daunting. We are seeking support to help balance costs, so that our focus can be on our baby girl's healthy development and readiness for surgery.
We are enormously grateful for the love and support our family and friends have already shown for our Amaya! We have been given so much already to help us raise our little one into the smart, kind and strong woman she will become. This challenge will make Ben, Karen and Amaya an even tougher family. We understand times are hard, and everyone experiences setbacks and health scares of their own. We are humbly using this resource out of our desire to love and support our daughter enough to cure her of this defect.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for any donations. The generosity of family, friends and strangers especially is overwhelming. We will maintain updates on this page of Amaya's adventures and her progress as we approach her surgery in a few months.
