Operation Double-O-Dava
Donation protected
There's only one Dava. God broke, (or some may say, purposefully shattered) the mold when he made him. ;-)
As many of you may have heard, in the wee hours of Monday, June 5th, Jimi was violently attacked without provocation.
While at home, a deranged, completely naked man started smashing Jimi's glass front door, trying to gain entry. Luckily, Jimi was able to fight him off before he got inside and call the police, but soon after, while trying to keep an eye out for the authorities, this man attacked Jimi with a metal weapon, leaving Jimi with lacerations to his head and face and in the process, a severely broken and dislocated ankle and leg.
Jimi was not a victim here, as he still managed to tackle this lunatic and buy time for the police to arrive and get him into custody, but he does, unfortunately, now have to pay the price for this act of insanity. In addition to multiple staples and many stitches in his skull (which, as one person mentioned, turns out to be just as thick as we always knew it was), he will be undergoing surgery on his leg and ankle next week and facing several months of tough recovery, rehab, etc.
We've already organized ways to bring Jimi food, help with walking Thunder, and a love train of visits, so please reach out to Terasa or me if you want to be included in that group, but beyond the immediate needs there are going to be months ahead where Jimi can't work and needs time to focus on recovery without having to worry about anything else.
I know Jimi would do the same for all of us, so please chip in what you can, so we can help Double-O-Dava cover some of the expenses he is facing. Luckily, Jimi does have health insurance, which helps, but as we all know, that never truly covers the impact of an extended recovery.
Also, a side note: I know there will be an outpouring of love and support for our dear "Himmy" but please, let's try out best to be organized about how we support him, so it does not become overwhelming.
It hurts our hearts to know that such a random act of violence can happen out of nowhere and that someone we all love so much had to take the brunt of that action. So let's rise up, as we always do, and instead of this being an ugly memory for Jimi, let's transform it into one he looks back on as the time when he truly knew his chosen family had his back.
Love,
Team Dava
