Operation Best Friends for Ivy

Hello! I'm Jen and this is my wife Meg. Typically I prefer to keep the details of our personal life personal. But we have reached a point where we need to share our story to keep working towards what we want for our future. So here's the scoop with the latest hurdle in the lives of the lesbian wife duo you know and love.

For over a year we have been trying to make babies. Of course, we have some unique challenges in this area because we are both females (#wegay #ifyoudidn'tknownowyoudo #prettysureeveryoneknew). As of today we have spent over $13,000 to try and make it happen. Those expenses have included sperm bank vials (#wecallitbabyjuice #nottobeconfusedwiththefruitystuffyoudrink), delivery fees, fertility testing, and a round of IUI. What we have for all the money spent is a diagnosis of fertile with a perfect uturus, a recommendation to keep trying, and a pile of used pregnancy and ovulation tests. When the most recent try, the IUI, didn't work we took a closer look at our stategy.

Originally the plan was to buy donor baby juice, have it delivered to our house, carefully thaw the 0.5mL sample, and then use the sample. We basically turned our livingroom into the lab of a mad scientist trying to create new life. Like a cross between Dr. Frankenstein (#creatinglife), Mr. Freeze (#scientistwholikesfrozenthings #alsoworkedonhiswife), and Dr. Farnsworth (#brilliantsleepyandworksinslippers) where the cold metal table was a soft green couch with lots of pillows (#elevatethosehips). After trying that at home for a while we decided to check with a fertility clinic to make sure there were no fertility issues. Turns out there was a polyp in my uterus that was blocking a fallopian tube. Not a huge deal, we had it removed (#drcarvedoutmyuteruslikeitwasajackolantern). We were assured that the testing cleaned everything out and that now we would have a good shot at success. So we took the rest of the money we had to put in to this and did a round of IUI.

It didn't work. We were devastated, again. I was so confident that it would work. It was just science, egg and sperm meet and then we meet baby. We couldn't even mess it up by accidentally overheating the frozen baby juice! I had even taken to using a fertility crystal that we bathed in the light of a new moon, clutching it at night and thinking happy baby thoughts before we go to sleep.

After assessing the situation and searching for options to keep trying, we made some interesting finds. We thought using a sperm bank would alleviate the legal issues that would be present with using a known donor, but it turns out we need to do adoption either way to ensure that we both have parental rights. That was an expense we hadn't even considered until now. We also looked into all the different donors we had used and discovered that the motility is reduced from the freezing and thawing, the last vail going from 69% to 33%. And it turns out there is an entire community of people who are willing to donote their baby juice to women in need, free of charge. So we sat down and did a cost break down for each method, and then a pro's and con's list for each method.

Now we have a new plan! Use a known sperm donor, travel to meet and receive the donoation, egg and sperm meet and we meet baby. And the whole adoption thing, so we have equal parental rights. This route the only costs we have are the legal fees for the consultation, donor contract, and adoption. And this is the part where you can help!

BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE!

I've saved the best for last. With the new plan we're both going to be pregnant. That's right, two pregnant ladies for the price of one! It's the deal of a lifetime. One donation, twice the reward! Maybe even just a few dollars for the giggle you were gifted from this story or the thought of two pregnant women under a single roof. We appreciate any help we can get. If you want to know more, reach out. But please, DONATE/SHARE OUR STORY/SEND US GOOD VIBES. Help us start the next chapter in The Adventures of Jen and Meg.
