We were having our annual Halloween party in 2017. Our friends brought their 1.5-year-old daughter with them to the party. This was the first time we saw Lucy interact with a small child. Lucy and this little girl were instantly in love. Lucy wanted to lick her face and the little girl would play with Lucy's wagging tail. Watching the two of them was the moment I realized, what I had known for so long, I needed to be a mom.

Fast forward to spring 2018....we went down the road of IVF. Joe had testicular cancer at a young age which means IVF was one of our only options for producing a biologically connected child. However, after a year of constant shots, mood swings, surgeries and waiting we were left $30,000 poorer and emotionally raw.

2019 was a year for grieving, soul searching and healing. We did not want to adopt unless it came from a place of wholeness and a true desire to help another. Sarah had often talked about wanting to adopt even in high school. We both think of adoption as a way to give back to our society. We do not see adoption as just a solution for failed IVF. While failed IVF is apart of our story so is a deep desire to help others in need.
2020 reminded all of us that tomorrow is uncertain so you better do what you want to do now. We've started down the road of private adoption. You might be surprised that this process will likely cost us around $65,000! I know I was surprised at the price tag. $45,000 of that needs to be in liquid cash!
This is where you all come in. Joe and I are so lucky to have so many people who we consider family. We hope that all of you will be a part of this child's life. We are both reluctant and shy to ask for money when so many others are suffering loss of jobs, homes and loved ones. However, the adoption represents light and new life, something I think many of us need more of. If you are able to contribute we would be forever grateful.
Every dollar will go directly towards the adoption costs which includes paying for the birth mother and child's medical care, lawyers for all the paperwork, the birth mother's needs prenatally and so much more. Thank you for considering helping us on our adoption journey!
