This Sunday, Myriel and Bûcheron will open for a special service and will commit all profits from the day to our friends at Mandalay Kitchen, who are currently unable to operate their restaurant.
Chef Chris Tunbaw’s story is truly remarkable. After his family fled Myanmar in the 1990s and resettled in St. Paul, Chris dreamed of one day opening a Burmese restaurant in his new home. Two years ago, he and his fiancée, Abbey Kroll, made that dream a reality, delighting our community with the cuisine he learned from his grandmother, right here in Frogtown, one of the Twin Cities’ most diverse neighborhoods and home to many immigrant families like Chris’s.
Just last week, a car crashed through the front of Mandalay Kitchen. They are now facing the difficult work of rebuilding while continuing to care for their staff.
They could really use our help. And for the good of our neighborhoods, we need Mandalay Kitchen, and businesses like theirs, to survive and thrive during these challenging times.
If you’re unable to dine out that day, you can still support them by donating through this campaign. All funds will go directly to the Mandalay Kitchen team, supporting an immigrant-run restaurant and a group of people who have consistently welcomed us to their table and uplifted our community.
With thanks,
Bûcheron & Myriel
