We’ve Given All We Can Sharing Sobriety. Now We Need You

Donation protected
Hi, we’re Rachel and Colin Casey - the creators of Sober Banter.
We got sober on the same day: November 22, 2021. Three years later, we launched Sober Banter, a podcast where we share real, unfiltered stories about life before and after quitting drinking filled with humor, heart, and a lot of honesty.

For the past year, we’ve self-funded every part of this show:
  • Interview software
  • Editing and video tools
  • Podcast hosting
  • Email and website services
  • Equipment, domain fees, and more

I (Rachel) handle all production, editing, scheduling, and guest outreach, on top of being a full-time student, mom, and dealing with autoimmune and chronic illness.

We’ve released nearly 50 episodes and interviewed over 40 guests (all unpaid).

No ads. No paywalls. Just real stories, freely shared.

But the truth is: we’ve hit a financial wall.

Colin works full-time to support our family, that’s always been the priority. Our agreement was that I’d focus on building this podcast and completing college full-time. And up until recently, we made it work. But a financial hiccup brought everything into focus. The amount we’ve quietly spent to keep this podcast running each month, stacked with the cost of my tuition and student loans, is no longer sustainable.

We had hoped that support would follow the value, but so far:
  • $0 in donations from episode links
  • $0 in website contributions
  • $0 in paid subscribers
  • 4 people donated via Buy Me a Coffee - thank you Tammy, Priya, Brice, and Andrews. Your belief truly kept us going.

We’re not asking for much but we need help keeping the lights on:
  • Covering monthly podcast costs
  • Paying down debt taken on to keep the show running
  • Catching up on overdue ASU tuition

In the meantime, we’re pausing guest interviews.
They’re the most expensive part of the show outside of the unpaid work I do. If you were scheduled as a guest, please know how deeply sorry I am. You’ll be the first people we reach out to if and when we’re financially able to resume.

For now, we’re taking time to regroup, reevaluate, and figure out what’s truly sustainable.

This isn’t about getting rich. It’s about staying afloat.

If Sober Banter has helped you in any way or if you believe in supporting sober creators who are trying to make an impact, please consider donating or sharing.

And if you’re not in a place to give, that’s okay. Just being here means something.

With gratitude,

Rachel (& Colin)
