Hi, everyone! I am raising funds to go towards the down payment for a new home for my daughter and me. It's just been the two of us for the last few years. We still live in a tiny apartment and as we get older it's getting smaller. As we've all noticed rent is getting insane right now and seems to be getting even worse. I realized the only way to stay in New York long term is to buy something.
Our goal is to get at least a two family home so we can rent out one floor to help with the remainder of the mortgage.
Now the part some of you have been curious about. The giving back/paying it forward.
1) In the spirit of giving back, when renting I will keep rent below market value.
2) As an added bonus, if we raise enough to make a higher down payment I will offer an apartment free for 1 year to one of you who donate. (utilities not included)
So far, the areas I'm looking at are Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights in Brooklyn NY.
How we got here:
After thinking for a while of purchasing a home the thought of the huge down payment was becoming a bit daunting. The higher the down payment the lower monthly mortgage payments. I've heard of Go Fund Me and figured I would give it a try along with the the first time homebuyer programs. I was feeling kind of weird crowd funding for a down payment and wanted to figure out a way to pay it forward. I always knew I wanted to keep rent reasonable. So keeping rent below market value is a must, but that didn't seem like enough. So one day while talking to a very good friend, we thought of an idea to give back. We thought it would be nice to offer something more tangible and came up with an apartment rent free for a year to one of the donors. There you have it, an apartment rent free for one year. If you have questions, ideas or any info on first time home buyer programs, grants etc, please feel free to leave a message.
Thanks to all of you that donated, if you haven't yet, please do and please don't forget to share. If any of you have questions or just want to know more stay tuned. Thanks for reading all the way through and for your donation. I don't want anyone breaking the bank, remember only give what you can. The minimum is totally fine, every bit helps and will get us there. Please keep helping me spread the word. You could be the lucky donor to get an apartment in NYC for a year rent free and also get some good karma helping us get closer to moving into our forever home.
