One More Cycle - A bike ride to help beat cancer!
Hi,
After dealing with the isolation of COVID, having to replan a wedding, uncertain job security, and loved ones passing; the news that my beautiful fiancée had been diagnosed with breast cancer at the start of 2021 was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to process and work through to date.
Undergoing Chemotherapy is a level of endurance you’ll only understand unless you’ve either gone through it or witnessed it. So, what more fitting than a 3 day epic bike challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Originally, the plan was to complete a 3 stage cycle challenge taking in some of the most famous and challenging 1 day cycling sportives in the UK; The Dragon Ride, The Manchester 100 & The Fred Whitton Challenge. Unfortunately, whilst training, I shattered by collarbone which required surgery to fit a plate and screws and I'm now on the mend.
This will mean that the event will still go ahead, but now virtually using my turbo trainer, powered by Zwift, and will consist of 3 days of 8 hours riding.
For anyone that's spent time on a turbo trainer, this is arguably much harder than the original plan...
