One month old Julia fighting for her life & sight
Donation protected
Our cousin has only just become the happiest dad in the world following the birth of their baby girl Julia a few weeks ago, just to be given the worst news that a parent could ever hear – cancer.
Julia saw the world for the first time a month ago, now the whole family is devastated by the fact that they may have to say goodbye to her forever.
Julia has developed bilateral retinoblastoma, a rare eye cancer and a merciless disease. Cancerous tumors develop in the eyeballs and once it spread onto the brain, the statistics are bad. In Julia’s right eye the tumor fills the entire eyeball, it is now also present in her left eye, which means the situation has now became dramatic.
Julia’s parents cannot imagine a more cruel disease than cancer that first takes their daughter’s sight away and finally steals her life. Those who have one healthy eye have a chance to see even when the other eyeball is removed – Julia would not have such a possibility. If she loses both her eyes, darkness will always prevail in her life. In order to fight for Julia’s life, the local oncologists proposed to remove both eyeballs, meaning that Julia would be blind for the rest of her life. But this isn’t the worst part of the news. The doctors could not give any guarantee that this would prevent the tumor from spreading further to the brain and other organs. This is a lot to take for this one month old tiny little human. But..
There is a ray of hope given by Dr David Abramson from the MSK Cancer Center in the US, who has been specializing in this type of cancer for many years and would be able to save both Julia’s life and sight! Chemotherapy is given to a child through the arteries directly into the eye to destroy the tumor. Such treatment is a huge opportunity for Julia, who would not be cured by standard chemotherapy.
Given how fast the tumor has spread to the second eye, the operation will have to take place in less than 3 weeks. The cost of the initial treatment is over £200,000. We only have 2 weeks to raise the funds and start the treatment in the US. So far, the family has raised £40,000 thanks to great heart and enormous generosity of donors from Poland, including parents of a baby girl, Lena who survived this type cancer thanks to the treatment by Dr Abramson.
Please help us raise the remaining funds to save the life and sight of little Julia so that one day she can look at her parents and give them a big smile with her eyes. Thank you so much for all the donors and anyone who has helped spread the word. We only have 2 weeks to save her sight & her life. There will most likely be no second chance.
